Yarrow

Found throughout the Northern Hemisphere, yarrow is a member of the sunflower family that has long been valued for its almost mystical properties. In fact, the Greek hero Achilles is rumored to have painted himself in yarrow to stay safe from arrows. Throughout Native American culture, yarrow is chewed to induce sweating and break fevers, and when pounded into a pulp it’s applied directly to bruises and sprains. Though yarrow leaves tend to be bitter, young ones can be used in mixed salads, teas, and even as a beer flavoring. Yarrow tea can be used to reduce the symptoms of hay fever, encourage menstruation and even to treat diarrhea and loss of appetite.
